Dragon Lights Reno | Giant Lanterns, Dinosaurs & Interactive Family Fun
- Updated
Dragon Lights is back in Reno with an all-new nighttime experience! Yu Tong Chen, Event Manager for Dragon Lights, joins Sarah Johns at the Wilbur D. May Arboretum for a look inside this year's spectacular display featuring handcrafted lanterns, dinosaurs, interactive exhibits and cultural experiences for the entire family.
Now in its sixth year in Reno, Dragon Lights features more than 30 large-scale lantern displays and 15 interactive lantern experiences. This year's new themes take visitors through an African desert, a prehistoric dinosaur world and displays celebrating Asian culture.
Yu Tong explains how the lanterns are handcrafted using metal, steel, LED lights and fabric, drawing on a Chinese lantern-making tradition with thousands of years of history. Visitors can explore pandas, a Chinese zodiac horse lantern and other cultural artwork while learning more about the craftsmanship behind the illuminated displays.
Plus, step into a dinosaur world featuring more than 10 different kinds of dinosaurs, explore interactive lanterns, visit the food court and discover a handicraft workshop featuring intricate artwork. Sarah also learns what it takes behind the scenes to bring Dragon Lights to Reno and how a team spent two weeks transforming the grounds for this year's experience.
