Step inside some of Reno’s historic homes and experience the city’s history through architecture! Sharon Honig-Bear and Derek Partridge of the Historic Reno Preservation Society (HRPS) join Sarah Johns to preview the Reno Harvest of Homes Tour, an annual event giving the public a rare opportunity to tour privately owned historic homes and discover the stories behind them.

Sharon shares why she originally founded the Harvest of Homes Tour and how the event grew from a desire to introduce more people to Reno’s older neighborhoods and architectural history. Now in its 14th year of tours, the experience allows visitors to go beyond the exterior and actually step inside the featured homes.

This year's tour showcases homes spanning approximately 40 years of Reno architecture—from the 1930s through the 1970s. Among them is a 1932 home designed by prominent Nevada architect Frederic Joseph DeLongchamps, whose work also includes the downtown Reno Post Office and Riverside Hotel. Visitors can explore different architectural styles and neighborhoods while learning how Reno changed throughout the decades.

The conversation also explores how historic homes evolve over time, balancing original floor plans and character with modern kitchens, bathrooms and other updates. Plus, learn about the Historic Reno Preservation Society's volunteer-led walking tours, educational programs and ongoing work to keep the stories of Reno's past alive.
