Square Dancing in Action | Northern Nevada Dancers Perform a Live Demonstration

Now that we've learned the basics, it's time to see experienced square dancers in action! Bill Sutman of the Northern Nevada Square Dance Association takes over the 2 Plus You Nevada dance floor for a full square dance demonstration featuring experienced Northern Nevada dancers responding to his calls in real time.

With the music playing and Bill calling each move, the dancers flow through an impressive sequence of traditional and modern square dance calls, including Square Through, Swing Through, Ladies Chain, Grand Square, Allemande Left, Right and Left Grand, Weave the Ring, Star Promenade, Ladies Center and Men Sashay, and more. Unlike the beginner lesson, there's no stopping to teach each movement—the experienced dancers listen, react and transition from one call directly into the next.

The demonstration showcases what square dancing can look like once dancers have learned the calls and developed the ability to respond as a team. From changing formations and partners to weaving around the square and finding their way back home, it's a fast-moving combination of music, memory, movement and teamwork.
