ABOUT US:
KTVN 2 News Nevada serves Northern Nevada and the Sierra Nevada on television and through its website and various digital services.
KTVN signed on the air on June 4, 1967. At that time, the station was an ABC network affiliate. KTVN switched to the current CBS network affiliation on May 10, 1972.
The station is owned by Sarkes Tarzian, Inc. The company is named after its founder, Sarkes Tarzian. Tarzian was an inventor and pioneer of the broadcast medium. He made groundbreaking efforts in FM radio and color television.
KTVN produces local newscasts and local programming, works with local businesses to market and promote themselves on television and in the digital universe and produces local commercials for those businesses. The station's award-winning local newscasts air live on television and stream online weekdays from 4:30am - 7:00am, 4:00pm - 6:00pm, 6:30pm-7:30pm and 11:00pm. Weekend newscasts are at 5:00pm, 6:30pm and 11:00pm.

Position Overview
The News Anchor/Reporter plays a key role in delivering trusted, engaging journalism to the 2 News Nevada audience. This position anchors and reports on daily newscasts, handles breaking news with professionalism, and serves as a visible representative of the station within the Northern Nevada community. The role supports KTVN’s mission of “Coverage You Can Count On.”
Key Responsibilities
· Anchor live newscasts with clear, confident, and engaging delivery
· Write broadcast-style copy and report enterprise stories for multiple newscasts
· Respond calmly and decisively during breaking news situations
· Collaborate with producers, photographers, and the assignment desk on story content and priorities
· Develop story ideas and plan coverage for ratings periods
· Build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders and organizations
· Represent KTVN through community appearances and involvement
Leadership & Collaboration
· Serve as a newsroom leader by providing guidance and professional input to photographers and producers
· Help motivate the newsroom and contribute positively to newsroom culture
· Take initiative when additional newsroom support is needed
Qualifications
· Strong on-air presence with the ability to present news clearly and conversationally
· Excellent writing skills for broadcast journalism
· Ethical, fair, well-spoken, and personable
· Comfortable working live on television and under deadline pressure
· Ability to learn video editing and newsroom technology
· Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field preferred (high school diploma required)
· Minimum one year of anchoring and reporting experience preferred
· Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

Associate News Producer
KTVN 2 News Nevada – Reno, NV
Position Overview
The Associate Producer supports daily newscast production by assisting Producers with writing, story coordination, video and sound selection, and overall show organization. This role helps ensure newscasts are accurate, well-written, visually compelling, and produced on time. The Associate Producer may also assist with digital content and fill in for the Producer as needed.
Key Responsibilities
· Write assigned stories in a clear, creative broadcast style
· Assist Producers with story selection, rundowns, timing, and show flow
· Attend editorial meetings and contribute story ideas
· Monitor wires, scanners, local news sources, and beat calls
· Coordinate live shots, interviews, and field crews as needed
· Help determine story placement and format (VO, VOSOT, pkg, reader)
· Support breaking news coverage under tight deadlines
· Assist with posting content to digital platforms and supporting Digital Producers
Decision-Making & Collaboration
· Assist Producers in editorial and production decisions
· Work closely with reporters, photographers, and production staff
· Flag legal, technical, or content concerns to management
· Contribute ideas for improving newscast quality and workflow
Qualifications
· Strong writing and organizational skills for television news
· Ability to work under daily deadline pressure
· Familiarity with newsroom computer systems or ability to learn quickly
· Good communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude
· Prior television news or deadline-driven experience preferred

- Participate in station training and follow through with research and independent studies in order to integrate the information.
- Keep current with the market through monitoring and study of competitive media. Report to management on market and account status with reports as required.
- Generate revenue to meet the stations and Marketing Specialist’s budgetary requirements.
- Build a book of business that will results in your personal commissions; with the goal of transitioning to a 100% commission-based model after one year, allowing staff to maximize earning potential.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising or related field preferred, but not required.
- Must maintain a professional appearance and manner.
- Must be able to market and sell digital marketing and broadcast radio solutions to businesses.
- Excellent oral and written communication; strong public speaking skills.

Internships at 2 News
2 News offers two paid (minimum wage) internships each Fall, Spring and Summer semester. Priority is given to Journalism students who need internship credits to complete their college curriculum.
The overall goal of the internship is for students to get a thorough understanding of the various jobs and activities involved in producing daily newscasts. Interns will have the opportunity to rotate through those various positions and work alongside professionals to learn writing, producing, reporting, shooting and editing.
The internship schedule can be very flexible to work with the students schedule.
