ABOUT US:

KTVN 2 News Nevada serves Northern Nevada and the Sierra Nevada on television and through its website and various digital services.

KTVN signed on the air on June 4, 1967.  At that time, the station was an ABC network affiliate.  KTVN switched to the current CBS network affiliation on May 10, 1972.

The station is owned by Sarkes Tarzian, Inc.  The company is named after its founder, Sarkes Tarzian.  Tarzian was an inventor and pioneer of the broadcast medium.  He made groundbreaking efforts in FM radio and color television.

KTVN produces local newscasts and local programming, works with local businesses to market and promote themselves on television and in the digital universe and produces local commercials for those businesses.  The station's award-winning local newscasts air live on television and stream online weekdays from 4:30am - 7:00am, 4:00pm - 6:00pm, 6:30pm-7:30pm and 11:00pm.  Weekend newscasts are at 5:00pm, 6:30pm and 11:00pm.

Key Responsibilities

· Anchor live newscasts with clear, confident, and engaging delivery

· Write broadcast-style copy and report enterprise stories for multiple newscasts

· Respond calmly and decisively during breaking news situations

· Collaborate with producers, photographers, and the assignment desk on story content and priorities

· Develop story ideas and plan coverage for ratings periods

Leadership & Collaboration

· Serve as a newsroom leader by providing guidance and professional input to photographers and producers

Qualifications

· Strong on-air presence with the ability to present news clearly and conversationally

· Excellent writing skills for broadcast journalism

Job Summary

The Assistant Director supports the Director and Operations Manager in executing a clean, polished newscasts and on-air content. This role assists with newscast automation, graphics, video ingest, master control, and other production and station needs as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

· Assist Directors with Overdrive automation preparation and execution

· Support graphics creation and newscast pre-production

· Perform video server ingest and database management

Qualifications

News Producer Job Description

The News Producer is responsible for planning, writing, and executing compelling newscasts. This includes coordinating with reporters and assignment editors, selecting stories, editing scripts, overseeing graphics, and ensuring high-quality journalism. Job Title: Lifestyle Show Coordinator

Reports To: Host / Producer

Position Overview:

The Lifestyle Show Coordinator is responsible for working with a team of individuals in developing this new project for KTVN.

The ideal Coordinator works closely with the host/producer, sales team, creative services, and the production team to align bookings with the editorial vision and logistical requirements of the show and supporting digital content.

This person plays a key role in pre- and post-production to include organizing of scheduled guests, ensuring rundowns and scripts are complete, post-interview editing and post-interview social media.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare scripts in final form for director

• Lead post-production needs including video editing

• Coordinate pre-interviews and gather talking points and background materials for the host

• Organize guest scheduling, travel for off-site segments, day-of-show logistics, and digital media calendar

• Serve as a point of contact for guests leading up to and during show appearances

• Produce field interviews or remote guest appearances

• Reflect a digital-savvy multiplatform approach, to also post social clips and web content

• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or management

Qualifications:

• Experience in television, radio, news, or related media field.

• Proven track record of successful guest booking, or someone who has successfully provided high-level administrative and strategic support to a C-suite executive, serving as a trusted partner in managing schedules, communications, and priorities

The Associate Producer supports daily newscast production by assisting Producers with writing, story coordination, video and sound selection, and overall show organization. This role helps ensure newscasts are accurate, well-written, visually compelling, and produced on time. Internships at 2 News

2 News offers two paid (minimum wage) internships each Fall, Spring and Summer semester.  Priority is given to Journalism students who need internship credits to complete their college curriculum.

The overall goal of the internship is for students to get a thorough understanding of the various jobs and activities involved in producing daily newscasts.  Interns will have the opportunity to rotate through those various positions and work alongside professionals to learn writing, producing, reporting, shooting and editing.

The internship schedule can be very flexible to work with the students schedule.
