On Monday, the Boomer's Sportsbook held its long-awaited grand opening at the Bonanza Casino. It was originally delayed due to the recent winter storms.

Some renovations are still coming along, but they want people to check out the venue regardless.

Joe Asher, the CEO of Boomer's Sportsbook, says you can bet in person, but you also have access to bet on a mobile app anywhere in the state of Nevada after you sign up in the casino.

He says being an independent sportsbook among other bigger sportsbooks is a challenge, but they have some features that they say set them apart from the crowd.

Asher says, "It's not like a marriage where you have to break up with your first spouse before you can marry your second. You can keep your old app, get our app, and check the price."

He tells us their biggest goal is expansion.

"We're trying to get into as many spots in the entire state as possible to really build out a statewide network."

Their first sportsbook was in Elko, then came multiple locations in Las Vegas, Tonopah, Carson City, and Incline Village.

"We're continuing to open up in as many places as we can so that there's a network of places across the state of Nevada," he said. "Wherever people are, we want there to be a boomer sportsbook."

Asher also says, "This is a Nevada company. We don't operate outside Nevada."

"If you're going to make your first sports bet, you always bet on the Wolf Pack, right?" says Brandi Anderson, Reno City Council Ward 6.

Anderson adds, "I love that it's a local casino. I love that it's a local family that's reinvesting in this market and providing an in-person place for people to gather and watch sports and play the odds."

She says the community coming out to support another local business goes a long way.

"In an economy like this, the best thing we can do is come to our local businesses, and when you have money to spend, you have a night to go out or a special experience. If you can prioritize local businesses, it's going to help everybody."

Asher says the Bonanza, being a family-owned space, fits their sportsbook perfectly.

"It's great for us to be in here working closely with them, and ultimately we're trying to service the same customers."
