California is now better equipped to fight wildfires as Cal Fire just added a new air tanker to its expanding fleet.
The C-130 Hercules is one of seven the state is retrofitting and deploying to help support firefighting efforts. They have the greatest speed and range of Cal Fire's entire airborne fleet.
The Hercules aircrafts are capable of flying 800 miles with a payload of 4,000 gallons of long-term fire retardant.
California got access to the plane after Congress passed the National Defense Authorization act last year, which enabled the transfer of the aircraft from the Coast Guard to California.
