The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating a head-on crash that occurred in South Lake Tahoe on Friday, July 26 around 1 p.m.

CHP says a Silver 2022 Toyota Prius driven by a 35-year-old woman was heading north on Pioneer Trail near Tionontati Street.

At the same time, a Blue 2022 GMC Sierra Pickup driven by a 74-year-old man was heading south on Pioneer Trail.

According to CHP for unknown reasons, the Toyota Prius crossed over into the southbound lane of Pioneer Trail crashing head on into the GMC Sierra.  

CHP says that both cars suffered major damage.

The driver of the Toyota Prius suffered major injuries including broken bones, the driver of the GMC Sierra and passengers of both involved cars suffered minor injuries, all of them were transported to the Barton Memorial Hospital and treated for their injuries. 

The crash remains under investigation at this time.Â
