Neighbors in South Lake Tahoe may want to keep an eye out for traffic changes coming to Pioneer Trail as it undergoes a safety project.

Construction began today, May 23, and officials expect the project to take around two months to complete.

The work will start at the intersection at Glenwood Way and Pioneer Trail, with road shoulder closures in place, and drivers being advised to take caution in the area.

The project includes improvements to traffic signs, pavement marking, drainage and a widening of the road.

Phase II of the Pioneer Trail Pedestrian Improvement Project will start this summer as well, between Larch Avenue and Ski Run Boulevard, which will add new sidewalks and create ADA-compliant crossings, among other improvements.
