The Caldor Fire burned over 220,000 acres, destroying more than 1000 homes, structures and businesses in August of 2021.
The volume of destruction forced hundreds into evacuation, leaving the majority with no home to return to.
The recovery process, mitigating damage and restoration efforts, left a long road ahead for the community. Â
Emergency forest teams began to assess the damage and put a plan into action.
The resiliency within the community brought locals together for immediate action in efforts to turn South Lake Tahoe around.
Well Rounded Wood Co., a local company developed a project, to salvage burnt wood logs and turn them into woodwork art and furniture.
The goal, giving new meaning to life through craftsmanship and creativity. A natural disaster, pulling community connection in a new direction and revamping Tahoe.
"My goal is to provide Lake Tahoe with local, rather than from some far-flung region in the world," said Colby Albino from Well Rounded Co. " Everything is cut from down the street."
Throughout his career as a carpenter, Albino found many valuable and beneficial ways to recreate various pieces.
He adds, "those years grew my passion for building and designing."
