Update (12/3, 11:45 a.m.):

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office has released the identification of the inmate who died in the El Dorado County Jail.

The inmate was 50-year old Brandon Canfield, of South Lake Tahoe.

This is still an active investigation, and no further information has been released at this time.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A man was found unresponsive in his cell this morning at the El Dorado County Jail, in South Lake Tahoe.

This occurred at around 5:30 a.m.

Correctional officers, nursing staff, and El Dorado County fire staff all attempted live-saving measures, but the inmate was pronounced dead.

The identity of the inmate is being withheld until officials are able to notify the next of kin.

The Sheriff's Office has initiated a critical incident protocol as part of the investigation, with which the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and the Placerville Police Department are assisting.
