Sierra Nevada Red Fox

A rare Sierra Nevada Red Fox has been spotted in the Lake Tahoe Basin for the first time since the mid-1900's.

According to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Sierra Nevada Red Fox were first found in the central Sierra Nevada near Sonora Pass. In recent years, the fox has been seen near Donner Lake.

This fox was spotted in video taken last November on trail cameras set-up on the west shore of Lake Tahoe in the Blackwood Canyon area of El Dorado County.

The Sierra Nevada Red Fox is listed as threatened under the California Endangered Species Act.
