The National Weather Service (NWS) has upgraded a fire weather watch to a red flag warning, in effect from 11 a.m. Saturday through 11 p.m. Sunday.
NWS shared the update in a public Facebook post, urging residents to take extra precautions during the period of elevated fire risk.
Officials advised avoiding activities that could generate sparks, including fireworks and sparklers, and reminded campers to fully extinguish their campfires.
"THIS WEEKEND - The Fire Weather Watch has been UPGRADED to a Red Flag Warning, in effect from 11 a.m. Saturday through 11p.m. Sunday. Avoid activities that may produce a spark, such as using fireworks and sparklers. Camping? Make sure all campfires are properly extinguished," the post stated.
The National Weather Service issued the warning ahead of a small brush fire that later sparked in the Palomino Valley on Friday, emphasizing the increased fire risk due to weather conditions.
