USDA Forest Service Hiring Events

As winter settles in across the Sierra and beyond, the path to a wildfire job is leading through college campuses in Northern Nevada and California.

At Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno this month people curious about wildfire careers can talk directly with U.S. Forest Service staff and learn about firefighting jobs and the hiring process.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Forest Service will host a wildland firefighter recruitment event, where people can meet current firefighters, get answers about benefits and day to day work, and receive guidance on how to apply for positions on national forests.

The event will take place at the T.M.C.C campus at the William N. Pennington Health Science Center, located at 18600 Wedge Parkway in building #B on Friday January 16 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, January 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Officials said this event is part of a broader hiring effort that includes other locations and dates, and people interested in positions on national forests across California and Nevada, including the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit and the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest can find more details through the Forest Service Fire Hire website.

The recruitment drive is meant to connect those interested in permanent and temporary wildland firefighter jobs with staff who can explain requirements and assist with the process of applying through the US Forest Service.

People planning to attend the Reno event are encouraged to bring questions and any needed documents to get help with career planning on site.
