Deadly head-on wrong-way crash

Two drivers are dead after a fiery wrong-way head-on crash near the Nevada-California state line on Sunday night.

The Sierra County Sheriff's Office says they received multiple 911 calls about a driver going the wrong way near the agricultural inspection station on Highway 395 around 7:30 p.m.

The California and Nevada Highway Patrols, and Washoe County Sheriff’s Office were notified as the car continued traveling against traffic toward Nevada.

A few minutes later, deputies were notified about a head-on crash just north of the state line in Sierra County.

Authorities say initial information indicated one car was on fire with possible occupants trapped inside. Washoe County Sheriff’s Office transferred a caller to Sierra County dispatch reporting the fire.

Truckee Meadows Fire and REMSA then responded and found a Subaru Impreza and a white SUV in the northbound lanes of Highway 395.

Deputies say CPR was performed on one driver, while the other was found trapped inside their car.

Unfortunately, both unidentified drivers died on scene.

The California Highway Patrol is leading the collision investigation, and the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the Coroner’s investigation.
