Teresa Benitez-Thompson

Teresa Benitez-Thompson is celebrating her victory in the race for Nevada's 2nd Congressional District after declaring a win Tuesday night.

Benitez-Thompson held a press conference Wednesday in Reno, where she said she has received calls from family members and friends congratulating her.

She said she has not personally heard from her opponent, Republican David Flippo, but confirmed the two campaigns have been in contact.

Reflecting on her win Tuesday night, Benitez-Thompson said, "It felt quite good to get a vote of confidence from the people."

When asked what her message was to voters who did not support her, Benitez-Thompson said she plans to represent everyone in the district.

"I'm going to work hard on behalf of everyone," she said. She pointed to her experience in the Nevada Legislature, saying representing Northern Nevada requires working across party lines to bring resources into the district.

Looking ahead to Washington, D.C., Benitez-Thompson said she intends to make sure Northern Nevada's priorities are heard.

Democrat Teresa Benitez-Thompson has declared victory over Republican David Flippo in the race for Nevada's 2nd Congressional District.

Benitez-Thompson announced her victory Wednesday morning:

“I am honored that Northern Nevadans have placed their trust in me to represent our home in Congress. Our region faces unique challenges that only someone with deep local roots and a genuine commitment to our communities can tackle. In Congress, I will fight every single day to protect our wallets, our water, and our way of life.

Thank you to everyone who made their voices heard in this election. I’m especially grateful to our dedicated supporters, volunteers, and staff who worked tirelessly to make sure a Northern Nevadan actually represents Northern Nevada.

As your representative, I promise to fight for all of us – regardless of political party. Our communities deserve nothing less.
