The "Don't Wing It - Give Back" fundraiser wrapped up Friday night at the South Reno Slim Chickens location.
Throughout the entire month of July, Slim Chickens has been fundraising to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada.
As people came into the restaurant, they would ask if they wanted to round up, but they found the community to be very generous when many would donate a much higher dollar amount per purchase.
Both Slim Chickens locations were raising money, which was matched to the dollar amount raised at each store.
Overall, they raised $2,000.
Derek Beauvais, the chief executive officer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada, says, "We're so excited to partner with Slim Chickens; it's been an amazing partnership, and to see them support us for an entire month and raise over $2,000 is really meaningful and has a huge impact on our program."
He adds, "Every $1,200 raised sponsors a match for an entire year, so what they raised here at Slim Chickens this month helps us to get at least one kid matched into our program, so we're really excited because we have about 150 kids on our wait list, so that's one kid off of our wait list to get a big brother or big sister that really needs it."
Roy Perez, the owner of Slim Chickens in Reno, Nevada, spoke about their fundraiser: "I think it's a wonderful program; there are always kids that need some help, need some mentoring, and I just think that when you find out adults are getting just as much out of the littles that are coming in, I think it's a true win-win for everyone."
He also mentions, "I'm really excited that we're able to do this, and I've learned a lot about Big Brothers Big Sisters, and I've also learned even more about how the community comes together to support a great program."
The restaurant has been fundraising all month for Big Brothers Big Sisters of northern Nevada.
