Family members and members of the northern Nevada community came together Saturday to remember the life of Edward Phillips.

Phillips was killed following a car crash on U.S. 395 by Red Rock Road on September 19th.

Nevada State Police say that a Chevrolet was headed south on the highway when it rear-ended the car Ed was driving, pushing it into another car.

He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

"Moving forward, I just hope everyone can just pay attention when they're driving and remember that distracted driving really hurts people," said Ed's oldest granddaughter Martina.

Throughout the span of his life, Ed Phillips served in the Navy, was a real estate professional, long-time Hot August Nights participant, and member of the Fernley Chamber of Commerce, among many other things.

"I know that everybody always speaks really highly of people after they have passed, but there is absolutely no way to convey with words how he truly did brighten everybody's life," said Martina.

Ed was 77 years old, and leaves behind a wife of 56 years, four children, and nine grandchildren.
