DECEMBER 8, 2023:
Sparks Police officers have arrested a woman in connection with a deadly hit-&-run crash that involved a pedestrian Thursday night on Rock Blvd.
Brennna Brewer was booked into the Washoe County Jail on the following charges:
1. DUI causing death.
2. Duty to stop at the scene of a crash involving death.
3. Failure to obey a traffic control device (red light).
4. Headlamps required.
5. Driving without a valid driver’s license.
6. Suspended vehicle registration.
7. No valid vehicle insurance.
Police say the suspect's car was going east on Rock, near Hymer just before 5:45 p.m. when it hit a person in a crosswalk against a red light, then got back on I-80.
The car then continued to drive away after an off-duty officer witnessed the whole thing and began to chase them.
"So, when the person fled the scene, they continued eastbound on I-80, they got off on northbound Pyramid. When they got off northbound Pyramid, that off-duty officer continued to pursue them. When they got into the area of Pyramid and C Street, the drier then collided into another vehicle,” says Jed Bader, Public Information Officer, Sparks PD.
After the suspect got into the second crash, they got out of her car and Brewer was arrested soon after.
The pedestrian that was initially hit by the suspect was then hit again by a second car.
Police confirmed that the pedestrian died.
Nobody was injured in the second crash.
Sparks Police say that the driver was drunk driving.
"Even though this accident didn't have anything to do with speed at the time, it did have to do with alcohol and you know, failing to stop at that red light. Drivers can slow down, remain vigilant, and keep an eye out for pedestrians."
Sparks Police are asking the public in locating the second car that hit the pedestrian - it is a lifted green Chevrolet truck with a diamond plated toolbox in the back.
