Sierra County Black Bear Encounters

Have you encountered or experienced any property damage from a black bear within Sierra County?

In an online post, the Sierra County Sheriff's Office is asking the community and its visitors to please report any encounters or damage related to black bears directly to their office.

They say that gathering this type of information and then complying with the data on a bear is crucial.

It helps authorities determine if a bear is a threat to public safety.

The Sheriff's office says that photographs and videos of the encounter, the bear, or any property damage can be very helpful in making that determination.

Information that is gathered can be emailed directly to the Sheriff's Office at: Wildlifeconflict@sierracounty.ca.gov.

If you have any questions you can also reach them at their non-emergency line at (530) 289-3700.

The Sheriff's Office says that after documentation, you will be provided with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife's Wildlife Conflict hotline number and will also be encouraged to contact and report the incident to the Fish and Wildlife as well.
