A 16-year-old boy was arrested on Tuesday on multiple charges involving a knife.

On Saturday, August 3 at around 9 p.m., the Sparks Police Department was dispatched to a call of a person armed with a knife trying to start fights with other people in an apartment complex located at 4005 Moorpark Court.

Police say they arrived on the scene five minutes later, set up a perimeter, and tried to find the armed person with the help of the Reno Police Department.

Officers were unable to find the suspect but believed he lived in the same apartment complex.

Sparks Police immediately began an investigation that included interviewing victims and witnesses, collecting physical evidence and video surveillance of the incident.

Police say the investigation was then turned over to the Neighborhood Police Unit (NPU).

The NPU investigation found that at the time the officers were originally heading to the complex, the suspect armed with the knife had tried to start a fight with a person sitting in a car, asking them if they wanted to die. They were able to safely drive away.

The suspect then ran towards a nearby playground where several kids were playing while making open statements about children dying.

All the kids were able to run from the playground except for one 4-year-old boy.

The suspect grabbed and picked up the child, claiming it was his, which it was not.

The child's grandmother who was on the scene attempted to grab her grandchild from the suspect and ended up in a struggle where she was able to free the child.

The suspect then turned his attention to two other girls in the park, who ran from him and were able to make it into an apartment, lock the doors, and call for help.

The suspect followed the girls and tried to open the door. When he realized it was locked, he began stabbing it multiple times before moving on further into the complex.

As the suspect moved through the complex, he came across a woman outside on her patio, he grabbed onto her arm while swinging the knife at her.  She was able to free herself and run into her apartment.

The suspect then damaged two cars with the knife as he walked through the complex.

He eventually came to an apartment with an unlocked door and entered it to find a father and his son, where he allegedly tried to stab them both but missed and stabbed a chair.

The father was able to push the suspect out of the apartment and lock the door.

The suspect ran north through the complex before officers arrived.

On Tuesday, August 6, based on evidence collected, Sparks Police were able to make an arrest.

The 16-year-old suspect was arrested and booked on three counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon, two counts of Destruction of Property, one count of Kidnapping with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Burglary while Possessing a Deadly Weapon.
