Update February 8:
The Storey County Sheriff's Office says 35-year-old Sean Speed of Dayton died in a dirt bike crash on State Route 342 in Gold Hill.
When deputies got there, Speed was on the ground and unconscious. The Sheriff's Office says he was not wearing a helmet.
He later died at the scene despite life-saving attempts.
Nevada State Police are leading the investigation.
They are asking any witnesses to come forward and contact them at (775) 847-0950 and reference case #26-0192.
Original story February 7:
State Route 342 in the Silver City/Gold Hill area was closed while Nevada State Police investigated a deadly crash Saturday afternoon.
The roadway has since reopened between both junctions with Gieger Grade.
Few details have been released at this time. We will continue to update this story as we learn more.
