For generations of northern Nevada kids, the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows has been a place to find support, build confidence, and imagine a future beyond their circumstances. Now, as the organization marks 50 years, it is preparing to celebrate that legacy while saying goodbye to the leader who spent decades helping shape it.

The organization will hold its annual awards banquet Thursday, Nov. 5, at the Silver Legacy Resort Casino in Reno. The evening will recognize young people earning scholarships, Club members making a difference, and community supporters who have helped the organization grow.

One of the night's central honors will go to CEO Mike Wurm, who plans to step down at the end of the year after 31 years with the organization, including 21 years as CEO. During his tenure, the club expanded opportunities for young people across northern Nevada.

The banquet will also look ahead, recognizing Youth of the Year scholarship recipients as they prepare for their next steps, whether that means college, trade programs, military service, or entering the workforce.

Since 2010, the organization has awarded more than $2.1 million in scholarships to help young people pursue those goals.

The event will include performances by Club kids and other surprises throughout the evening. Cocktails begin at 5 p.m., followed by dinner and awards at 6 p.m.

Tickets and tables are available online at the Boys & Girls website. Proceeds from ticket and table purchases directly support the organization's youth programs and services across northern Nevada.
