The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is accepting public comment on the proposed Montezuma Gold exploration project, located on public lands about seven miles southwest of Goldfield in Esmeralda County.

Kinross Gold Corporation is proposing to conduct exploration drilling for gold on 5,672 acres of public land, with surface disturbance not to exceed 250 acres.

According to the plan, the company would return any modified areas to their original condition once exploration is complete.

Any future plans for mining would require additional environmental review and further opportunities for public input.

More details, including the draft environmental assessment, are available on the BLM National NEPA Register.

Comments may be submitted through the ‘Participate Now’ option on the site, which is the preferred method.

Written comments may also be mailed to: Bureau of Land Management, Attention: Montezuma Exploration Project, P.O. Box 911, Tonopah, NV 89409.

The public comment period will close July 23.
