A 10-year-old boy has confessed to sparking a fire that burned through a children's playground at an apartment complex in Carson City.

It happened Sunday afternoon, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Five young people were seen in the area immediately before the fire started.

The entire playground was destroyed.

An investigation is underway after a fire destroyed a playground at a Carson City apartment complex on Sunday. 

It was first reported around 1 p.m. at 20 College Parkway.

Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading outside of the playground. No injuries were reported.

Deputies and detectives later learned that about five juveniles were playing in the same area before the fire - and that the fire started on or around the rubber-like ground surface.

Numerous witnesses and surveillance systems were used to determine the juveniles in the area at the time the fire started. 

This investigation remains ongoing.
