Carson City Fire Department Chief Sean Slamon will be retiring next summer, he said in a letter on Thursday.
In the letter, addressed to all fire department personnel, Carson City's city manager and deputy city manager, the Carson City board of supervisors, and all city department heads, Slamon called serving the people of Carson City one of his greatest honors.
He said there have been many accomplishments achieved by the department during his time as chief, including gaining support and funding for the city's fourth fire station and securing a $3.6 million FEMA SAFER grant.
He noted in the letter that none of the accomplishments he described were achieved by a single person.
"My greatest accomplishment has been working with outstanding teams, from administrative staff to fire personnel," he said in the letter. "There is no more extraordinary accomplishment than making a difference in someone's life; you do that daily. For that, I say thank you."
