Carson City fire crews recently completed a fuels reduction project in Ash Canyon, thinning vegetation to reduce the risk of wildfire while protecting nearby homes and infrastructure.
According to the Carson City Fire Department in an online Facebook post, the project created a mosaic pattern of treated areas, meaning vegetation was thinned in a patchwork style rather than cleared entirely.
The department said this approach reduces wildfire intensity by breaking up continuous fuels and creates defensible space to protect homes and infrastructure.
The department described the outcome as a healthier, more resilient landscape that balances fire safety with environmental stewardship.
