The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Goni Road on Friday, August 15, in Carson City.

The goal is to reduce traffic crashes and fatalities linked to impaired driving.

CCSO says about 30% of all traffic crash fatalities in the United States involve drivers with blood alcohol concentrations of .08 g/dL or higher.

In 2023, 12,429 people died in these preventable crashes. On average, over the 10 years from 2014 to 2023, roughly 11,000 people died each year in drunk-driving crashes.

Officials urge drivers to plan a safe ride home before drinking, whether that means calling a taxi, using a ride service, or relying on a sober friend or family member. “If you are drinking, do not drive,” the Carson City Sheriff’s Office said.

The department said it will continue enforcing traffic safety laws and educating the public year-round as part of its commitment to reducing accidents and saving lives. “Whether you're the driver, a passenger, or a pedestrian, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone to make safety on our roadways their top priority,” the office said.
