The Carson City Sheriff's Office will join with other law enforcement agencies in the region to increase patrols aimed at keeping impaired drivers off the road this New Year's Eve.

About 32 percent of all traffic crash fatalities in the U.S. involve drunk drivers, according to a release from the Sheriff's Office.

They advise planning ahead if you plan to drink by arranging a ride home from a sober friend or family member, calling a taxi, or using a ride-share service.

"The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will continue to enforce traffic safety laws and educate the public year-round as part of their commitment to reduce accidents and save lives," said the release in part. "Whether you're the driver, a passenger, or a pedestrian, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone to make safety on our roadways their top priority."
