There’s still time to grab a seat on a bus tour exploring the water systems, conservation projects, and landscapes that shape the region.

The Carson Water Subconservancy District’s “Get on the Bus” tour is set for Oct. 27 and 28, and a few spots remain open.

The two-day tour will cover topics ranging from water rights and water quality to river restoration, floodplain management, and regenerative agriculture. Participants will travel on a 55-passenger luxury bus departing from the district’s office each day.

Stops include the Quill water treatment plant in Carson City, conservation and recreation projects in Alpine County, California, and Douglas County, wetlands east of Fallon, the Churchill Museum, Lahontan Reservoir Dam, and Nevada’s newest state park.

Onboard presentations and videos will provide information along the way. Lunch is planned at River Fork Ranch and Rambling River Ranches.

“We’ve gotten a good response from community members this year, which we hope will generate interesting questions,” said Brenda Hunt, CWSD watershed program manager. “Speakers should get a good idea of local residents' concerns.”

Certified engineers, planners, floodplain managers and water operators can earn continuing education credits for participating.

Hunt said some attendees are returning after previous tours, reflecting the variety of speakers and locations featured.

Those interested in joining can visit the Carson Water Subconservancy District’s website for registration details and the latest program updates.
