July 20, 3:15 p.m. Update 

A Nevada State Police investigation found a driver crossed all travel lanes after leaving the roadway before a fatal rollover last Friday on U.S. 50 Alternate, U.S 95A junction south of Fernley near the Reno Fernley Raceway.

The crash happened at about 3:02 p.m. on Friday July 17 on U.S. 50 Alternate south of the 10 Mile Marker in Lyon County, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol, a division of the Nevada State Police.

According to the preliminary investigation, a blue Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling north while a white Chevrolet Silverado was traveling south on U.S. 50 Alternate. Investigators said the Trailblazer drove off the roadway to the right, where the front of the car struck a paddle marker.

The Trailblazer then rotated, re-entered the roadway, crossed all travel lanes and drove off the left side of the road, investigators said. Flying debris from the shoulder struck the front of the Silverado.

Investigators said the Trailblazer overturned, traveled through a fence and struck several wooden poles on private property. The driver was ejected before the Trailblazer came to rest on its side on private property. The Silverado stopped at the crash scene.

The driver of the Trailblazer, 33-year-old Joeseph E. Cummings of Silver Springs, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

The driver of the Silverado reported no injuries.

The Nevada Highway Patrol Major Incident Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash.

July 17, 4:22 p.m. Update

Just before 3 p.m. Friday, North Lyon Fire was dispatched to a single-vehicle rollover on US 95A near the Reno Fernley Raceway.

North Lyon firefighters arrived to find Lyon County Sheriff’s Office personnel on scene attempting life-saving measures.

Despite the combined efforts of first responders, the driver declared dead at the scene. There were no passengers. 

Nevada State Police are now investigating
