Children will have a chance to climb into heavy construction equipment, check out emergency vehicles and experience hands-on activities Saturday at Dozers & Dirt in Sparks.
The Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation is hosting the event Saturday, Sept. 19, at its new location at the Western Nevada Materials Aggregate Plant, located at 22585 E. I-80 in Sparks. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with gates closing at 2:30 p.m.
Children 17 and younger can operate more than 35 pieces of construction equipment. The event also will feature up-close displays of the RAVEN helicopter, a bomb unit, police cars and fire trucks.
All children must be accompanied by an adult, and a waiver is required for entry. Children who want to ride the equipment will need a $100 ticket, while non-riding children can enter with a $20 wristband. Parents and guardians are included with a child's ticket but are not permitted on the equipment.
Closed-toe shoes are required for the event, and organizers ask that all pets be left at home.
Proceeds from Dozers & Dirt benefit the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation and its mission of supporting local families and children affected by cancer.
The event is being presented with support from Ford Motor Company, along with other sponsors and a planning committee of 25 community leaders from the safety, building and trades industries.
The foundation said the event helped make the experience possible for nearly 4,000 children last year.
