Dam rehab project

The City of Reno is holding a public meeting next week to discuss plans to rehabilitate the West Wash Dam in northwest Reno.

The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Reno City Hall Council Chambers. Residents can also participate virtually.

According to the city, the West Wash Dam is part of the Peavine Mountain Watershed and helps protect about 30,000 people who live and work downstream from flooding.

City officials will provide an update on the rehabilitation project and discuss a recently released draft supplemental plan and environmental document.

The dam was built in 1960 and has now surpassed the 50-year evaluated life used in the original watershed plans, making it eligible for rehabilitation through the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service's Watershed Rehabilitation Program.
