The City of Sparks is rolling out a new “Summer in the City” pilot program aimed at bringing more life, color and energy to its downtown core.

Alongside staple events like Star Spangled Sparks, Hot August Nights and the Nugget Rib Cook-off, the city will host a variety of pop-up events throughout the summer.

Visitors can look forward to a midsummer craft fair, a street art celebration, chalk art day, cornhole tournaments and more.

To help create a safe, walkable space for residents and visitors, the city will close Victorian Avenue to cars from Pyramid Way to the east side of Victorian Plaza starting July 3 and continuing through mid-October.

Businesses in the area will remain open, and outdoor spaces will be enhanced to support the added foot traffic.

“We are very excited about this,” said Mayor Ed Lawson. “Adding more pop-up events and closing the section of Victorian Ave. will create a truly welcoming and vibrant atmosphere. I encourage everyone to check out all that is ‘happening here’ in downtown Sparks this summer!”
