The Virginia Street Bridge in downtown Reno will be transformed into an open-air dining experience next month as donor families, transplant recipients, and advocates gather for the Together as One community banquet.

The event, hosted by Donor Network West Foundation, is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 6, on the Virginia Street Bridge at 1 N. Virginia Street.

Virginia Street will close for the event as one expansive table stretches across the bridge.

Organizers said the banquet is designed to honor donor families, celebrate transplant recipients, and raise awareness for organ, eye, and tissue donation.

For nearly 40 years, Donor Network West has served northern Nevada as its federally designated organ procurement organization. The organization said its mission is to save and heal lives through organ, eye, and tissue donation for transplantation and research.

“Through this event, we are bringing together community leaders, donor families, recipients, organ donation advocates, people waiting for the life-saving gift of organ donation, and more to share a meal al fresco at one expansive table,” said Janice Whaley, PhD, president and CEO of Donor Network West. “There are more than 700 Nevadans waiting for a second chance at life. Together as One aims to inspire them with hope and courage.”

Organizers said the event will focus on honoring generosity, celebrating second chances, and inspiring hope throughout the northern Nevada community.
