Fire in Gold Hill

State Route 342 has fully reopened to traffic.

According to Storey County, the Gold Hill Fire is now fully contained. State Route 342 is expected to remain closed until at least 6 p.m.

3:27 pm update

According to Storey County, forward progress has been stopped on a fire burning in Gold Hill, just south of Virginia City.

It was first reported just after 11 a.m. Friday morning.

Crews from Story County Fire, BLM and other agencies stopped the blaze with air support. 

The Gold Hill fire is currently estimated at 4.08 acres and is 80 percent contained. 

State Route 342 remains closed in both directions from the bottom of the Truck Route to Toll Road while crews continue operations in the area. All evacuation orders have been lifted.

Storey County and BLM Fire crews are on scene of a wildland fire burning in the Gold Hill area. 

Evacuation orders have been given for all Gold Hill residents, according to the Storey County Sheriff's Office. State Route 342 is closed in both directions in the Gold Hill area.
