Reno Police Department crash

Reno Police say a person has died after being hit by a car Wednesday night in a crash at Wells Avenue and Ryland Street.

At approximately 8:32 p.m., personnel from the Reno Police Department, Reno Fire Department, and REMSA responded to a report of a crash involving a car and a pedestrian.

Investigators determined the pedestrian was crossing Wells Avenue outside of a marked crosswalk as part of a group crossing at different times and angles.

Police say the driver slowed after seeing the pedestrians and believed all individuals had safely crossed the roadway. The driver then continued forward and struck a pedestrian who had fallen in the roadway and was not visible.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

Investigators determined the pedestrian was intoxicated at the time of the crash. Police say the driver showed no signs of impairment, speed was not a factor, and the driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Wells Avenue was closed to southbound traffic from Mill Street to Ryland Street and reopened at approximately 11:30 p.m.
