Douglas County is inviting the public to an educational flood awareness event happening this month.

Flood preparedness and current flood control projects will be discussed at the event, according to a release from Douglas County.

It is happening on Thursday, November 13, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Dining Room at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center on Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville.

The event is happening during Flood Awareness Week.

Key flood control projects and resources to be highlighted at the event include:

  • Douglas County Stormwater Master Plan
  • Carson River Physical Map Revision, effective June 18, 2025
  • Pinenut Road and Sawmill Road Wash Flood Control Study
  • Pinenut Creek Flood Control Feasibility Study
  • Stormwater Capital Improvement Projects Update
  • Future funding options for the Stormwater Division

There will also be interactive booths, watershed models, and up-to-date flood mapping to help residents understand their flood risk and options for flood insurance and safety measures.
