For several weeks each fall, Rancho San Rafael Park gets a pretty dramatic makeover after dark. Dragon Lights Reno returns Friday for another run, bringing giant glowing lanterns, colorful displays, and three new worlds for visitors to explore.
This year’s festival, themed “Many Worlds Aglow,” runs through Nov. 29 at the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. The experience combines traditional Chinese lantern artistry with modern lighting, imaginative design, and interactive elements.
There are three worlds to explore this year: an Asian Safari, an African Desert, and a Dinosaur World.
The Asian Safari includes a glowing panda bamboo forest, illuminated corridors, and five-meter-tall galloping horses. The African Desert features a grand welcome gate, colorful wildlife and a 28-meter centerpiece.
Then there’s Dinosaur World, where visitors will find towering prehistoric creatures, including a six-meter Tyrannosaurus Rex.
“Dragon Lights has become a fall tradition for families throughout Northern Nevada, and we are excited to welcome the community back for an entirely new experience this year,” said Huiyuan Liu, event manager. “Many Worlds Aglow combines the incredible artistry and craftsmanship our guests have come to expect with three imaginative new worlds that offer something to discover around every corner.”
Dragon Lights will be open from 6 to 10 p.m. each night from Oct. 2 through Nov. 1. Hours change to 5 to 9 p.m. from Nov. 2 through Nov. 29.
The festival is at 1595 N. Sierra Street in Reno. Free parking is available onsite, with additional parking and shuttle service offered on select nights.
Tickets are already on sale. Weekday online admission starts at $23.75 for adults and $17.75 for children ages 3-11. Children under age 3 get in free.
Weekend tickets are $27 for people ages 12 and older and $19.75 for children ages 3-11.
There’s also still time to get the early bird discount. Through Oct. 1, visitors can save 15% on general admission and child tickets with the promo code AGLOW26.
Because the number of tickets available at the box office each night is limited, organizers encourage visitors to buy tickets online in advance and choose a specific night.
