Failing to complete a required registration check led to a felony arrest in Fernley, where a registered sex offender is accused of failing to follow Nevada law.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office said 44-year-old Mario James Ibarra was arrested on Oct. 26 after failing to complete his required registration verification in October, despite receiving written notice from the Sheriff's Office outlining his obligations.

Ibarra, a Tier III registered sex offender, was taken into custody by deputies and transported to the Lyon County Jail. He was booked on one felony count of violating sex offender registration requirements under Nevada law. His bail was set at $5,000.

The Sheriff's Office Sex Offender Task Force conducts compliance checks and targeted enforcement efforts to ensure registered sex offenders who live, work or attend school in Lyon County follow state registration requirements.
