A fire at an apartment complex near Meadowood Mall on Wednesday night has displaced residents from multiple apartments and injured a firefighter, as well as a cat.

It happened just before 7 p.m. on Meadowood Mall Circle, according to a spokesperson for the Reno Fire Department.

Firefighters contained the fire to the apartment where it started and to the attic and roof above it.

Smoke and carbon monoxide from the fire affected eight apartments in total, according to the RFD.

The power to multiple apartments has been shut off due to electrical wiring in the shared attic above them, and residents have been connected with the American Red Cross of Northern Nevada for assistance.

The Red Cross has confirmed in a release that they are helping three families displaced by the fire.

The Red Cross also says 21 other apartments were without power, with people unable to return to their homes.

Two dogs and three cats were removed from an apartment, with one of the cats being taken to an emergency animal hospital for treatment.

No residents were hurt although one firefighter suffered a minor burn to his hand.

Firefighters were on scene within five minutes of receiving the call and aggressively worked to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
