UPDATE - July 21:
A crash on US93 near Elko County left four people dead and several others hospitalized after a collision north of Wells, according to Nevada Highway Patrol.
Troopers responded at approximately 11:37 a.m. on Monday to a report of a crash near mile marker 79, about 5 miles north of Wells.
A preliminary investigation determined a gray Honda Odyssey minivan was traveling southbound on US93 while a white Toyota Tacoma pickup was traveling northbound approaching the Honda.
Investigators said the Honda crossed over the centerline while passing an unrelated vehicle and the driver lost control. The driver of the Toyota steered to the right in an attempt to avoid a crash, but the right front of the Honda struck the left front of the Toyota.
After the impact, the Honda rotated counterclockwise and came to rest in the area of impact. The Toyota was redirected off the roadway to the right and came to rest on its passenger side on the dirt shoulder.
The driver of the Honda and two passengers sustained life-threatening injuries and were pronounced deceased on scene. The passenger of the Toyota also sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.
The driver of the Honda was identified as 44-year-old Nazia Salma. The two passengers of the Honda were identified as 19-year-old Nihaa Shaik,and a 13-year-old male child, all from Union City, California. The passenger of the Toyota was identified as 23-year-old Sophia Weiniger, of San Diego, California.
The remaining occupants of both vehicles were transported to area hospitals and remain in critical condition.
The crash remains an open investigation and is being investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol Major Incident Reconstruction Team. Witnesses or anyone with information about the crash are asked to contact the NHP Elko Office at (775) 753-1111 or email ncemirt@dps.state.nv.us.

The crash happened just after 11:30 a.m. near mile marker 79.
A portion of U.S. 93 remains closed while crews investigate.
There's no immediate word on what caused the crash.
Officials have not yet released any victims' names.
