Gov. Joe Lombardo has directed Nevada State Police to temporarily suspend enforcement of restrictions on red-dyed diesel fuel on public highways.
The suspension is contingent on the IRS not imposing penalties for selling or using dyed diesel on highways, as required under President Donald Trump’s recent executive order.
The order, signed Oct. 5, temporarily expands the permitted highway use of red-dyed diesel and provides certain tax relief and penalty protections through the end of the year.
The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles will also waive administrative fines incurred during the period covered by the federal order.
Nevada State Police will continue suspending enforcement for a period after the federal order expires to allow residual red dye in fuel systems to dissipate to undetectable levels.
Lombardo said the state wants to give Nevadans the opportunity to take advantage of the temporary relief without fear of penalties for complying with the order.
