As cooler weather settles in, a donated coat could make a difference for a local child who needs one. The Hot August Nights Foundation is collecting new and gently used coats and jackets through Oct. 31 to help children across Reno and Sparks stay warm this winter.
The foundation’s annual coat drive accepts outerwear in all sizes, from infant through adult, with donations going to local youth through the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows.
Last year, the effort provided 543 coats to children in the area. Foundation leaders hope to match or exceed that number this year.
“This is one of those little things that can make a big difference for a family,” said Lisa Jansen, executive director of Hot August Nights. “Every coat donated helps keep a local child warm, and we’re thankful for everyone who pitches in.”
Coats can be dropped off during normal business hours at several locations throughout Reno and Sparks:
Hot August Nights office, 1425 E. Greg St., Sparks
Champion Chevrolet, 800 Kietzke Lane, Reno
Summit Racing Equipment, 960 Glendale Ave., Sparks

For those who prefer to shop online, the foundation has also added an Amazon coat drive wish list this year. Coats purchased through the list can be shipped directly to the foundation for donation.
The coat drive runs through Oct. 31, giving community members time to contribute before the collection period ends.
