I-580 is currently closed in both directions from Mt. Rose Highway to Eastlake Boulevard in southern Washoe Valley due to high winds and weather-related crashes.

The closure is expected to last for several hours, possibly even until tomorrow morning.

NHP tells us that there are at least four crashes at this time. One person was transported to the hospital; it is unknown from which crash site.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office says it's helping NHP with the crashes,  including one that overturned between Bowers Mansion Road and Bellevue Road.

NDOT says passenger cars are allowed to travel and can detour via old/Alternate U.S. 395 through Pleasant Valley and the Bowers Mansion area.

NHP says that drivers should obey all traffic laws, slow down, follow all NDOT highway signs for danger, plan for strong winds, use alternate routes, and expect delays as this portion of I-580 is particularly "unsafe" due to the wind.

High-profile vehicles of nine feet or taller can not travel through the area, and are advised to make alternate plans/detour.
