Snowy recovery of a car on the shoulder

A car that took an unexpected turn onto a snow covered shoulder is drawing attention to winter driving conditions in the Lake Tahoe Basin, where changing temperatures are keeping roads slick.

According to CHP South Lake Tahoe in an online post, the number two lane of US-50 just west of Camp Sacramento is closed as crews work to recover a car that left the roadway and came to rest on the shoulder.

Troopers said the area continues to see icy spots on roads throughout the basin. Warm daytime temperatures are melting snow, then refreezing overnight, creating patches of ice that can catch drivers off guard.

Drivers are being urged to slow down and drive cautiously while traveling through the Sierra Nevada Mountains as crews work and conditions continue to change.
