University Police say they're seeing an increase in thefts of e-bikes and electric scooters on the UNR campus.
University Police say the incidents have occurred in various areas across campus rather than being limited to a single location.
They're encouraging members of the campus community to remain vigilant and take appropriate precautions to reduce the risk of theft.
They've released the following tips:
- Lock your vehicle, bicycle, or scooter whenever it is unattended, even for a short period of time.
- Do not leave keys, key fobs, or other valuables inside an unattended vehicle.
- When possible, park in well-lit, highly visible areas.
- For bicycles and electric bicycles, use a high-quality U-lock or other theft-resistant locking device and secure the frame to an approved, stationary bike rack.
- Secure electric scooters using an appropriate locking device whenever possible.
- Do not leave electric bicycles or scooters unattended for extended periods.
- Consider registering your bicycle, electric bicycle, or scooter with University Parking Services.
- Immediately report suspicious persons, vehicles, or activity to the University Police Department Northern Command.
If you observe suspicious activity or believe your vehicle, bicycle, or scooter has been stolen, do not attempt to confront or pursue a suspected offender. Contact University Police Department Northern Command as soon as possible.
