Visitors planning to hike Island Lake Trail in Lamoille Canyon will need to make alternate plans for several days as crews replace the Carolyn Creek Bridge.

Island Lake Trail will be closed from July 6 through July 10 for the bridge replacement. Helicopters will be used to remove the old bridge and transport the new bridge into the area.

The project is funded through the Great American Outdoors Act and is intended to improve safety and accessibility while reducing erosion and impacts to the stream.

“This is a project several years in the making, and I’m glad to see our Great American Outdoors Act funding at work,” said Mountain City Ruby Mountains Jarbidge District Ranger Josh Nicholes. “This is a popular trail in a beautiful area, and the new bridge will only add to the overall experience here in Lamoille Canyon.”

Island Lake Trail begins at the Road's End Trailhead. The parking lot and all other trails will remain open, though visitors may see additional traffic in the area over the next week and a half. People are asked to use caution around construction equipment and obey posted signs.
