A Speeding Awareness Joining Forces campaign will start on January 13 and continue through January 31.
Multiple law enforcement agencies throughout Nevada will join together in a unified effort targeting people who are driving over the speed limit.Â
The Washoe County Sheriff's Office says that from 2018 to 2022 there were 505 speeding-related deaths in Nevada, making it one of the leading causes of deaths on roadways throughout the state.
They say speeding isn't just going over the posted speed limit; it's driving too fast in bad weather such as rain, ice, and snow, and putting other drivers at risk.Â
Washoe Sheriff's say that speeding is more than just breaking the law; the results of the action are extensive.
By speeding, there is a far greater chance of losing control of the car, the stopping distance increases when hazards are present, and the severity of the crash increases, leading to more severe injuries.Â
By increasing patrols, law enforcement hopes to raise awareness and educate the driving community about the dangers of speeding and to save lives.Â
Washoe Sheriff's say they are dedicated to bringing the number of deaths on Nevada's roadways to zero through these campaigns and increasing awareness about the dangers of speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, impaired driving, distracted driving, and more.Â
