In a jury trial, thirteen guilty verdicts have been handed down against an area man for multiple child sex crimes.

34-year old James Furman has been found guilty of two counts of sexual assault against a child under 14, three counts of lewdness with a child under 14 and five counts of permitting a minor under 14 to produce pornography. He was also convicted of two counts of possessing pornography of a person under 16 and one count of preparing, advertising, or distributing material depicting pornography involving a minor.

Officials say the case began in 2022 when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip from an online app that someone was sending child sexual abuse material (CSAM) to another person on the app.

Washoe County Sheriff's Office detectives investigated the case, in cooperation with the Northern Nevada Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce.

Searching Furman's digital devices, prosecutors say officials found more than 100 CSAM images, most of unknown victims. Some of the images they say had a known victim who was between the ages of 4 and 7 at the time of the abuse.

During the trial, Deputy DA Kristina Rhoades used evidence to prove that Furman was the person who owned the devices that created and distributed the offending material.

Sentencing for this case is set for April 3, where Furman faces multiple life sentences.
