Over 700 volunteers came to the Truckee River on the morning of September 13, taking part in the Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful's (KTMB) Annual Truckee River Cleanup.
According to KTMB, volunteers worked at various sites along the river shed removing weeds, cleaning up illegal dump sites, stenciling storm drains, and many other park beautification and cleanup projects.
KTMB says, their efforts ensure litter, green waste, and other potentially hazardous items are disposed of properly.
Removing helps protect our water quality and also mitigates fire risk.
KTMB says, these are the results from today’s cleanup:
- 33.8 tons of trash, including 339 Tires, 2 vehicles, 5 vehicle parts
- 61.4 tons of weeds and green waste were removed
- 300 storm drains stenciled
- 20 trees planted
- 60 plants planted
- 51 yards of mulch were spread at various parks
